Oriental medicine originated several
thousands of years ago and is based on ancient Chinese
philosophy. It states that disease occurs because
of the imbalance and disharmony of the body. It places string
emphasis on the integration of the body and treats disease according
to individualÕs own situation. It
is the safer method, treating disease more radically and effectively.
The Oriental medicine compensates for the weaknesses of Western.
Furthermore, it can not only treat a wide variety of diseases,
but also enhances recuperative power and immunity, prevents disease,
preserve health and achieve longevity. Acupuncture and Chinese
herbs are the two primary health care modalities.
ACUPUNCTURE
a. What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture means the stimulation of points on the surface of
the body by the insertion of needles to regulate Qi, the vital
energy of life, so as to treat disease. Acupuncture is based
on the belief that health is determined by a balanced flow of
Qi. Qi circulates in the body along twelve major energy pathways,
called meridians. Each linked to specific internal organs and
organ systems. When the flow of Qi is blocked for any reason,
pain and illness occur. By stimulating appropriate acupuncture
points, the flow of Qi is regulated and consequently relieve
pain and/or restore health.

c. Is Acupuncture Treatment painful?
No. We use disposable, hair-thin, painless needles. Usually there
is only a brief sensation as the needle is inserted, and itÕs rarely painful. Once the needles are in place,
they generally cannot be felt, and typically stay in place for
about 20 minutes. When the needle reaches Qi, patient may feel
a slight sensation of soreness, expansion, heaviness or numbness.
Many patients are surprised at how relaxing they are during treatment
and how easily the needles are placed, some even fall sleep during
treatment.
